About FEM
About FEM
BACKGROUND
Over the years, Malaysia has seen the rise of several women entrepreneurs and correspondingly, women entrepreneur associations; each set up to meet a function or need of the specific community. In as much as they are different, there are several similarities that exist between them. This was recognized, and in line with this, the then Minister of Entrepreneur Development, called for a Federation to be formed as an umbrella body.
The Federation represents the interest of all the women associations and is a focal point for interaction with not only the Government, but also the various International Organizations. In this way the various associations can work with greater efficiency and cohesion to promote and develop entrepreneurship amongst women in Malaysia.
In June 1996, the leaders of six key women entrepreneur associations came together and set up a protem committee to formalize the Federation, under which all women entrepreneur associations would be affiliated. YBhg Dato’ Mustapa Mohamed, the then Minister of Entrepreneur Development has been appointed as an Advisor. FEM was then officially registered on 8th November 1996.
After many years of formation, lots of activities have been accomplished whether individually or collectively with other affiliate members. Each of activities carried out by affiliate members will be supported by FEM and others. It obviously reveals our cooperation between members towards the development of Malaysian women entrepreneurs.
To date, FEM affiliated associations are as follows:
1. Dewan Usahawan Industri Desa Malaysia-Usahanita (DUID)
2. Dewan Perdagangan Islam Malaysia–Usahanita (DPIM)
3. Persatuan Usahawan Wanita Bumiputra Malaysia, Johor (USAHANITA, Johor)
4. Persatuan Usahawan Wawasan Wanita Malaysia (WAWASANITA)
